  • Electric Loco Shed, Kalyan has been charged with 25 kV ac supply on 07.06.2010 to facilitate direct arrival/departure of Locos from the Shed. This has eliminated the use of Diesel Locos for shunting AC Locos in Shed. Thereby a saving of about Rs. 1.3 core per annum.
  • Lonavla-Vangani section switched over from 1500 Volts dc to 25 kV ac traction system w.e.f 02-05-2010 and Vangani - Kalyan section switched over from 1500 Volts dc to 25 kV ac traction system w.e.f 24-10-2010. This has improved the system throughput and the running time between Kalyan & Karjat has been reduced by 5 minutes. It will also lead to a recurring saving of about Rs. 1 crore per annum in traction energy bill.


  • Modifications adopted
    • Provision  of  Insulating  Base and  Surge  Counters  for condition monitoring of Lightning Arrestors in Traction Sub stations/Feeding Posts/Sectioning & Paralleling posts.
    • Unique three Zone Protection System for AC Traction used in Mumbai Division. It is based on Microprocessor based Integrated Relays.
  • Replacement of old brittle 242 sq.mm Copper Catenary wire
    • Replaced 19.38% more than the last year. 9.417 km replaced in 2010-2011 (up to Nov-2010) as against 7.888 km in 2009 – 2010 (up to Nov-2009).
