4.        ACTIVITIES OF EMU CARSHEDS

The following activities are carried out by carsheds to keep the AC-DC EMU & AC EMU rakes in good fettle.

SCHEDULE MAINTENACE

Rolling-in-Examination :-

Carried out at Thane depot to detect any irregularities in under gear while the rake rolls in to the platform.

Night Examination :-

There are 17 night stabling depots where night examination is carried out daily on stabled rakes. Major safety items including under gear of rakes is checked.

Trip Inspection (TI) :-                       

Carried out at Kurla, Kalva and Sanpada carsheds at an interval of 10 days during Night/Day time. Attention to brake gear & passenger amenity items is given during this schedule. Headlight focusing is also checked.

IA Inspection Schedule :-

Carried out at Kurla, Kalva and Sanpada carsheds at an interval of 30 days (RETRO) & 45 days (AC-DC) only during Day time. Attention of all electrical and mechanical items. Passenger amenity items are also checked and attended in this schedule.

IC Inspection :-    

Carried out at Kurla, Kalva and Sanpada carsheds at an interval of6 months only during Day time. Attention of battery, LT jumpers, couplers, suspension brass clearance are also checked in this schedule.

Cleaning of the rakes:-

1.Dry cleaning ( at night stabling siding)- Every day.

2.Wet mopping (at night stabling siding)- 5 + 1 day.

3.Washing schedule ( At shed)- 18 + 02  days.

During washing schedule rakes are washed thoroughly from inside and outside of the coach. Disinfectants are sprayed in coaches. In addition to un-authorized posters removal.

The Kurla Carshed is also carrying out overhauling of following major equipment:-

Traction motors, Compressors, Brake Equipment Pantograph, Control Equipments, AWS, PASystem. Kurla Carshed is supplying overhauled Traction Motor, Compressor, AWS equipments to Kalva and Sanpada carsheds for running repairs.

CB (Fan) AC-DC Retro schedule :-

This schedule is carried out at an interval of 45 days. During this schedule all fans blades and guards are cleaned thoroughly by air blowing. All CBs are changed. Defective fans switches are replaced. Minor attention to wiring is given on condition basis.

5. HIGHLIGHTS

KURLA CARSHED

1)3 nos of NDTC coaches converted to DTC coaches for conversion of 12 car to 9-car Siemens rakes for DC-AC conversion in HB & THB

2)20 Nos. of AC-DC Siemens rakes received from W.Rly in this year and made formation as per C.Rly and put in service.

3)10 Nos. 9 car AC-DC Siemens rakes converted into 12 car rake formation.

4)2 Nos. DTC coach converted into NDTC coach for 12 car formation of Siemens rake.

5)Knurling type Centre Grab pole in door way provided in Unit No. 2014-2016-2015-2013 for safety of passenger.

6)Seat modification for more passenger accommodation.

7)CCTV provided in ladies compartment coach for safety of womens.

8)Panic button provided in ladies compartment for womens safety in one rake on trial basis.

9)As a part of preventive action to avoid recurrence of untoward incidents resulting into death/injury in railway premises awareness poster have been prepared by Commercial department and same pasted / Displayed at prominent locations inside the EMU coaches.

Provision of poster regarding non able passenger (Divyang) provided in all 12 car EMU handicap coaches.

SANPADA CARSHED

1)Commissioning  of AC Retrofitment rakes viz. 11th & 12th commissioned during the period Apr’16 to Dect’16. The work of 13th AC retrofitment rake is under progress

2)Total 34 (Siemens) Coaches POH outturn was carried out at Sanpada carshed.

3)Charging / conversion of UP & DN HB lines from CSTM to PNVL and UP & DN T/HB  lines from NEU-VSH  to TNA (including  TUB yard, TNA UP THB EMU siding) with 25 KV AC was carried out successful dated 09 /10.04.2016.

4)44 EMU Rakes in HB section have been converted from 9 Car to 12 Car on 08.08.16

5)63 nos. of DC coaches have been removed from service based on age cum condition basis for scrapping. These coaches after removal of TM, MG, Comp, Panto etc. were sent to Kurla carshed for scrapping further.

6)24 DC coaches Scrap cutting done at SCS upto Dec’16.

7)EP contactor Endurance Test bench in house carried out by Control Equipment section of SCS.

8)SCS has started centrifuging of transformer oil of AC-DC retro rakes. Parameters of PPM, BDV, DGA, PI of 03 transformers before and after centrifuging should be compared with standard value for improvement the reliability of EMU which reduced the failure of transformer and finally improve the reliability.

9)Computerized Ultra sonic testing has been started as per Railway board order

10) Scrap Disposal : Ferrous – 270.460 MT (Target – 300) & Non ferrous – 2.450 MT (Target 15). 241 empty barrels of oil & grease, TM – 16.59 & Pantograph – 36.99 MT also done


6. MAJOR MODIFICATION

MODIFICATIONS ON EMU RAKES:

i) Railway Board vide letter No. 2006/Elect(G)/181/3/AC-DC EMU dated 22.07.2010 approved retrofitment of 10 nos. existing DC EMUs coaches with AC equipment. One unit has been taken for proto-type. Control circuit and power circuit has been developed by Carshed, Kurla. Roof dishing and AC roof equipment fitment done. Transformer, Rectifier, HSCB fitment done and MG relocated. Unit tested in AC OHE and DC OHE and performance found satisfactory.

ii) 1 No. 9-Car DC rake Ladies Special converted to 12-Car DC rake on Main Line.

iii) Matribhoomi (Ladies special) train introduced First time in Thane-Vashi & Thane-Panvel section during morning & evening peak hours from 29.05.2010.

iv) New time table No.82-HB (Revised) introduced in Harbour & Trans-Harbour section from 29.05.2010. In Trans-Harbour section 44 train services and in Harbour section 18 train services are increased. With the increase in service the total 774 services run in Trans-Harbour & Harbour section.

v) On dated 07.12.10, Six 12 car rake introduced in Trans-Harbour section resulting 80 services with 12 car instead of 9 car.

vi) There had been cases of puncturing of lightening arrestor at DC-AC neutral section due to malfunctioning of APC (Automatic Phase control receiver). This was happening due to EMI caused by Traction return current. Kurla carshed has relocated APC magnet on all AC-DC rakes and failures have come down to zero.

vi) To avoid detention of rake due to uncoupling of MR/BP stainless steel pipe, clamping of pipes is being carried out by Kurla carshed. Total 435 Coaches completed out of 528 coaches so far.


vii) For easy operation of AWS and to avoid detention of rake due to pressure dropping, ISU of AWS system is being shifted and brought in front of Motorman. Total 82 Coaches completed out of 88 coaches so far.

viii) AWS isolation indication system at the exterior portion of D’Cab has been provided in all DC EMUs.

ix) Paralleling of Important Interlocks in AC-DC Siemens rake. The work has been completed in all rakes.

x) There had been 2 cases of breakage of three piece palm rod provided on AC-DC (Siemens) EMU. This is a safety hazard as broken palm rod may entangle with points/crossings. Single piece palm rods have been provided on all AC-DC (Siemens) EMU to avoid such incidences.

xi) There had been 23 cases of AC-DC (Siemens) EMU traction motor impeller breakage. 239 Traction motors out of 704have been replaced so far.

xii) There had been large number of cases of side bearer crack on AC-DC (Siemens) EMU. Kurla carshed has modified all coaches as per ICF drawing. There are NIL cases after modification.

xiii) There had been cases of burning of BHEL type MG/Compressor contactor due to defective design of Arc quenching. All DC EMU rakes have been provided with TDK design MG/Compressor contactor which are superior in performance.
