Mechanical Department, also known as Rolling Stock Department is responsible for maintenance of rolling stock including passenger coaches, freight wagons, Electrical Multiple Units/Mainline Electric Multiple Units, Diesel-Electric Multiple Units and Cranes. Besides, it maintains large number of machinery & plant in workshops, EMU Car sheds, Coaching Depots, Freight Depots and other work centers.

This department also formulates plans for procurement of rolling stocks, plant & machineries and ensures safety and reliability of stocks in train operations.

Headquarter Office is the Office of its Zonal Head of department. All units of this department are being monitored under following HODs in the headquarter office.
