General Manager, Central Railway Chairs 126th ZRUCC Meeting

Shri Dharam Veer Meena, General Manager, Central Railway chaired the 126th Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) meeting at Central Railway Headquarters, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai o­n 05.06.2025. A total of 44 ZRUCC members, including three Hon’ble Members of Parliament, Shri Dnyaneshwar Raosaheb Patil, Smt. Varsha Eknath Gaikwad and Shri Anup Sanjay Dhotre were present during the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, Shri Dharam Veer Meena said that the suggestions of ZRUCC members hold an important place and help Central Railway provide better services to its passengers. He lauded the tireless efforts of railway personnel who work round the clock with utmost dedication to ensure smooth train operations and passenger comfort.

Focusing o­n passenger amenities, Shri Meena highlighted the enhanced facilities such as modernized waiting rooms, better toilets, increased seating, drinking water booths, lifts, escalators, mobile charging points, and digital display boards. Central Railway runs 383 Mail/Express and 142 Passenger/MEMU/DEMU trains daily, serving 5.5 lakh passengers. Premium services like 10 Vande Bharat trains and the newly launched Amrit Bharat Express from LTT to Saharsa have improved travel experience. Under the Amrit Station Scheme, 98 stations are being redeveloped, including 12 stations inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister o­n 22 May 2025.  Shri Meena also mentioned that Central Railway operates 1,810 suburban services in Mumbai Division and 42 in Pune Division, carrying around 38.2 lakh passengers daily. Recognising the importance of suburban services as the lifeline of Mumbai, efforts have been made to enhance passenger comfort. As part of this, the number of air-conditioned services in the Mumbai Division has been increased to 80, providing a more convenient travel option for commuters.

Speaking o­n security and passenger safety, he shared that over 5,200 CCTV cameras have been installed in suburban coaches and an additional 2,693 cameras in Vande Bharat, DEMU, and LHB coaches. Emergency Talk Back Systems have been installed in ladies coaches of 161 EMU Rakes. Central Railway’s RPF saved 73 lives and reunited 1,463 missing children with their families in a year. QR code-based payments and Digital Divyangjan ID cards have made ticket booking easy & convienient for passengers including Divyangjan. 

Highlighting innovation and infrastructure achievements, Shri Meena reiterated that Central Railway’s waterproof point machine won first prize across all zonal railways for its efficiency during track flooding. The Real-Time Water Level Notifier in coaches won second prize, contributing to passenger satisfaction. A total of 316 km of doubling/multi-tracking and 72.5 route km of electrification were completed in FY 2024-25. Central Railway commissioned 17 FOBs, 31 ROBs, 92 RUBs, and closed 31 level crossings to enhance safety. Under the 'One Station o­ne Product' initiative, 161 stalls have sold over ₹8.74 crore worth of local products. 
During his address, Shri Meena also mentioned that Central Railway has been honoured with a total of six prestigious departmental shields at the Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar 2024 ceremony held in New Delhi, marking a significant achievement in operational excellence. Among these, the most coveted Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant Overall Efficiency Shield was awarded to Central Railway for exhibiting the best overall performance across all zones of Indian Railways, in addition to five other departmental shields. 

Hon’ble Members of Parliament raised various issues related to their constituencies & were satisfactorily answered by Railway Officers. Members of the ZRUCC also discussed various rail user-related issues, took updates o­n the works under the Amrit Bharat Station Project, suggested augmentation of passenger amenities at various stations, and raised demands for stoppages and new train services. They also offered a number of constructive suggestions during the meeting. 

The General Manager assured the members that Central Railway has examined their suggestions and will implement them after detailed deliberation.
