Central Railway Enhances Capacity with Electronic Interlocking Commissioning and Third Line at Multai in Nagpur Division.
Central Railway’s Nagpur Division has successfully commissioned the Electronic Interlocking (EI) system in connection with the newly constructed third line at Multai (MTY), marking a significant step towards enhancing capacity, operational efficiency, and safety on this busy section.
The commissioning involved several major infrastructural improvements.
The Clear Standing Room (CSR) on important lines has been extended to accommodate longer trains: Down Non-Loop Line from 702 to 965.72 metres, Down Main Line from 713 to 1032 metres, and Up Main Line from 774 to 1323.59 metres. The Up Loop Line was upgraded to a Common Loop Line with CSR extended to 1036.83 metres.
The Goods Shed, earlier half-rake capacity, has been enhanced to full rake with CSR of 739 metres, while a Dead-end Siding was converted to a 750-metre Shunting Neck at Itarsi end.
Additionally, the new third line with CSR of 827 metres and an adjoining loop line of 750 metres has been provided, along with a 750-metre Shunting Neck at Nagpur end.
These works will ensure smoother handling of longer trains, strengthen goods operations, provide operational flexibility, and prepare the division for future traffic growth, furthering Indian Railways’ mission of safe and efficient rail transport.
