General Manager’s Safety Award for 20 Staff of Central Railway

Shri Naresh Lalwani, General Manager, Central Railway gave away “General Manager’s Safety Award” to 20 Central Railway staff i.e. 8 from Mumbai Division, 7 from Bhusaval Division, 2 from Nagpur Division and 3 from Solapur Division. The awards were given in appreciation of their alertness during duty, their contribution in averting untoward incidents and ensuring safety in train operations during the month of June /July / August - 2023, in a function held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai o­n 05.9.2023. The award consists of a Medal, commendation certificate, a citation of exemplary safety work and a cash award of Rs.2000/-.

Mumbai Division

Shri Suresh Siddharth Sonavane, Track Maintainer, Titwala, Mumbai division, while o­n duty as stationery watchman o­n 27.7.2023 o­n the Titwala-Ambivali section o­n Kms 62/27 at 19.10 hrs, noticed that the metal coil tie of the metal sheet roll loaded o­n the BRN wagon of a passing goods train was in a dangling and unsafe state, which can be unsafe for traffic. He promptly alerted the Train Manager who stopped the train, put right the issue and the train departed safely, thus averting a possible mishap.

Shri Naresh Gangaram Kokre, Track Maintainer, Karjat, Mumbai division, while o­n duty as stationery watchman o­n 29.6.2023 o­n the 106/700 to 106/800 kms section noticed “Formation Settlement” He promptly alerted the concerned authorities and the issue was put right, thus averting a possible mishap.

Shri Shyaad Babu, Track Maintainer, MHC-TKW section, Mumbai division, while o­n duty o­n 24.6.2023 at Kms 118/0 section at 17.51 hrs  noticed boulders falling o­n track. He promptly alerted the Senior Section Engineer, Lonavala and the  Station Master TKW cabin and the track was protected in time, thus averting a major mishap.

Shri Mininath Vishnu Pimple, Track Maintainer, TKW-, MHC section, Mumbai division, while o­n duty o­n 01.7.2023 at Kms 116/900 to 117/00 section noticed loose mud and boulders falling o­n track. He promptly alerted the Senior Section Engineer, Lonavala and the track was protected in time, thus averting a major mishap.

Shri S V Owhal, Loco Pilot Mail/Exp, Mumbai division, while o­n duty o­n 22.6.2023 piloting Train no 12290 between Kms 110 to 109 heard an unusual sound in the Locomotive. He immediately put o­n the Flasher light, stopped the train, thoroughly examined the Loco, informed the TLC that the tracks were sinking at that particular spot and departed o­nly after being assured that everything is okay, thus averting a major mishap.

Shri Surendra Singh, Fitter, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Mumbai division, while o­n duty o­n 03.7.2023 at LTT Coaching Depot, during routine checking of primary maintenance of Train no 12165, noticed the wheel disk in an unusual condition. The coach was marked sick and was sent for detailed examination at Parel & Matunga Workshop. The wheel was found to be cracked at four different places. His dedication and observation helped avert a major mishap.  

Shri Parmeshwar Kumar Mishra, Fitter under Senior Section Engineer, C&W/Kalamboli, Mumbai division, while o­n duty o­n 09.7.2023 at Kalamboli Yard during special premium examination noticed the centre pivot top plate of BCN no 30018863199 in broken condition. His timely observation helped avert a possible mishap.

Shri Sharad Alimkar, Keyman, Diva, Mumbai division, while o­n duty, o­n 29.7.2023 during exchange of signals, noticed smoke from the coach of Train no 11030. He tried to alert with a red signal but the tyrain had moved ahead so he informed the station master of Thane station. The train was stopped and the fire was put off thus averting a major mishap.

Bhusaval Division

Shri Milind Bhalerao, Khalsi, Bhusaval division, while o­n duty, o­n 01.8.2023 at RCD / Bhusaval, noticed a rail fracture near platform no 4 between Pole no 443/34 and 443/1026. He immediately alerted the Senior Section Engineer and Loco Pilot of Train no 12716 which was waiting for signal clearance. The train departed o­nly after the rail fractiure was attended to. His prompt action averted a major mishap.

Shri Amol Ashok, Track Maintainer, Bhusaval division, while o­n 00.00 to 08.00 hrs duty o­n 19.7.2023 at level crossing gate no 49 inspected the girder bridge at Kms 614/06-10 during heavy rains and found the water above danger level. He immediately informed his Superior and the rail traffic o­n the section was stopped. His prompt action averted a major mishap.

Shri Ajay Bhagwan Nikam, Track Maintainer, Bhusaval division, while o­n duty o­n 10.7.2023 o­n Murtizapur-Mana section at Kms 630/3-5 and 630/4-6 during heavy rains and found water logging at Kms 630/3-5 Up track and later observed that soil from underneath the tracks at Kms 630/4-6 were washed away. He immediately stopped the arriving Train no 11121 with a red flag signal. The concerned authorities were informed and the traffic o­n the Up and Down side in the section were suspended. His prompt action averted a major mishap.

Shri K N Singh, Loco Pilot Mail/Exp, Bhusaval division, while o­n duty o­n 06.8.2023 piloting Train no 12869 between Kms 274/11 to 274/15 observed a loose fish plate o­n the down track. He immediately stopped the train and alerted the Station Master of the next station. The problem was put right and his alertness helped avert a major mishap.

Shri Ashok Kumar Mishra, Loco Pilot Passenger train, Bhusaval division, while o­n duty o­n 10.7.2023 piloting Train no 11121 o­n the Bhusaval-Badnera section,  observed that some people were signalling for the train to stop at a signal after Murtizapur station. The train was at a speed of 100 kmph but he immediately applied emergency brakes. It was found the soil under the tracks ahead had been washed due to strong water current. The train was reversed to a safe distance and the concerned authorities were alerted. This helped avert a major mishap.

Shri Md. Khurshid Alam, Loco Pilot / Goods, Bhusaval division, while o­n duty o­n 13.5.2023 observed a tempo standing o­n the nearby Up line near Igatpuri cross over. He immediately put o­n his flasher light and alerted the train arriving o­n the Up track. The Loco Pilot of the arriving train was briefed through walkie-talkie and a major mishap was averted.

Shri Abhimanyu Maurya, Assistant Loco Pilot, Bhusaval division, while o­n duty o­n 10.6.2023 during an inspection of the loco under track, noticed a cracked helical spring. The concerned authorities were immediately informed and a possible mishap was averted.

Nagpur Division

Shri Nilesh Jivtode, Track Maintainer, Bhandak, Nagpur division, while o­n duty o­n 09.7.2023 at level crossing gate no 35 / B o­n the Bhandak-Majri section at 10.46 hrs and at 15.57 hrs noticed smoke from the wheels of 2 passing trains. He immediately alerted the station master of Bhandak station. The trains were stopped at majri station and found to be having brake binding. The were put right by the Train Manager and C&W staff and the train departed safely. His prompt action averted a possible mishap.

Shri Kamlesh Kumar,Assistant Loco Pilot,  Nagpur division, while o­n duty o­n 17.7.2023 o­n Train no 12159 observed sparks from the EM pad of a stationery goods wagon, near Timtala station. He immediately informed Station Master, Timtala station. The wagon was detached since examination revealed a hot axle. His alertness helped avert a major mishap.

Solapur Division

Shri Pravin Deshmukh, Track Maintainer, Kalaburagi, Solapur division, while o­n patrolling duty, o­n 02.7.2023 at Kms 571/0-1 noticed a rail fracture. He immediately protected the track for the arriving Train no 17220 Kakinada Express. The concerned authorities were alerted and informed and the train departed safely after the rail fracture was put right. His prompt action averted a major mishap.

Smt Jayshree Haji, Sr. Technician / C&W, Daund, Solapur division, while o­n rolling in examination duty o­n 14.7.2023 observed that the CBC pin eye hole of o­ne wagon was in broken condition. She immediately informed all concerned and the wagon was detached thus averting a possible mishap.

Shri Rahul Kumar Saav, Electronic Signal Maintainer, Sawalgi, Solapur division, while o­n duty o­n 12.7.2023 detected fire in the outlet of AC unit 1 & 2. He extinguished the fire with the help of the o­n duty Poinstman and thus averted a major mishap.

Shri Naresh Lalwani, while addressing o­n the occasion said that the awardees have done a commendable job and such 24 x 7 alertness shown by the railway staff for safer working will motivate others and sincerely work towards the safety of passengers.

Shri Alok Singh, Additional General Manager, Shri M S Uppal, Principal Chief Safety Officer,  Shri Sunil Kumar, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, Shri S S Gupta, Principal Chief Operations Manager, Shri N P Singh, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, Shri Rajesh Arora, Principal Chief Engineer and other Principal Heads of Departments of Central Railway were present o­n the occasion and Divisional Railway Managers of all the Divisions joined the event virtually.
