RAILWAY PROTECTION FORCE ADDING HUMAN TOUCH WHILE SECURING THE PASSENGERS AND THEIR PROPERTIES

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) is a prime security and Law Enforcement Agency for better protection and security of Railway property, the force has evolved itself from its main role of protection and safeguarding of Railway Property to additional roles of passenger security and passenger facilitation. With changing times, the role regarding passenger security and facilitation has been gaining in prominence. The force today identifies the changing security needs of the railway and its customers and adapts itself by equipping itself with skills and resources and implementing innovative solutions. To meet the widening gamut of responsibility, Central Railway RPF has launched various operations aimed at ensuring that passengers are protected from theft, human trafficking, suicide attempts, drug trafficking, and other crimes during their railway journey.

1. RPF personnel have been risking their own lives to save the lives of others in "Mission Jeevan Raksha." During August 2023, 5 precious lives were saved by RPF personnel.

2. The RPF has also been playing a crucial role in rescuing children in need of care and protection. In August 2023, in Central Railway under operation "Nanhe Farishtey," 133 children were rescued by RPF personnel and handed over to their Parents / NGOs / GRP /Police.

3. Luggage Retrieval and hand over under Operation “Amanat” – Many passengers forget to take all their belongings like luggage/Mobile in a rush to board the train or leave the train/station. In August, under this operation RPF personnel help in securing such belongings and restore them to the rightful owner. Under this operation, RPF retrieved approximately 144 luggage valued more than Rs. 1,30,470/-.

4. RPF has also been empowered to tackle the issue of drug trafficking & illegal liquor through the railways. During the month of August 2023, RPF registered 3 cases of Ganja of 97.539 Kg valued Rs. 8,36,090 and 10 cases of liquor (1388 bottles i.e 203.420 litre) valued Rs. 1,30,470/-.
