Diesel loco Shed, Central Railway,

Pune Division

Diesel Loco Shed, Pune is an important shed of the Central Railway in Pune Division. It was planned under WP 1978-79 to home 60 locos. The shed was further extended to home 100 locos under WP 1981-82. The loco shed became functional from 13.08.1981. Now it has a holding of around 193 locomotives with around 64 locos operating in mail express links. The shed is headed by Sr.DME(D).

Major and Minor schedules of Diesel Locomotives are carried out in the shed. The shed is ISO 45001 : 2018, ISO 9001 : 2015 and ISO 14001 : 2015 certified. The shed is divided into Light Schedule Repair section, Heavy Schedule Repair section, Heavy Repair (Mechanical), Heavy Repair (Electrical), Bogie Section, Machine Shop and Training Centre. The shed is  located at Ghorpuri and entrance of the shed is between a Railway crossing gate. 

 

Highlights:

1. RCD Ghorpuri is having 03 underground storage tank each 225KL capacity.

2. All ALCO locomotives except WDS6 (08 nos.) are having MEP (Medha Excitation & Propulsion)  control system.

3. 132 locomotives  are having computerized control braking (CCB) system.

4. Electric Locomotive shed construction work is in progress for homing 50 Electric locomotives. Presently IA, IB  schedule of  05 KYN based   Electric locomotives are being carried out at Diesel Loco Shed, Pune.

5. Zero scrap shed.  All scrap/released material is collected at designated place and lot is formed. When sufficient quantity is collected, lot is auctioned immediately.

6. New high capacity screw compressor has been installed in shed. Refrigerated air dryer is also provided to give moisture free compressed air.

7. New spring testing has been installed. This machine is suitable for  conducting

   i) Compression test ii) Scragging cum load deflection test.

8. In house HHP locomotive hand cranking device has been developed. By using this device either  way (clock wise and anti  clock wise) cranking is possible with one person.  Two persons are  required for hand cranking by using existing cranking device. Thus there is saving of manpower  and time.
