Achievements - Signalling 2016-17

Signalling - Safety & Reliability Improvement Work

  • Automatic Block signalling

Central Railway is running more than 1600 suburban services on Mumbai Division at an interval of approximate 4 minutes. Large number of services at such short interval required an efficient signalling system with minimal human intervention. For this purpose, Automatic signalling system has been provided in Mumbai suburban section which allows to run more train one after the other at such high frequency. During the year, 25.50 km Automatic signalling  system provided in central Railway. With this Central Railway is having 235.5 Rkm of automatic signalling system.

  • Interlocking of stations.

To ensure safety and reliability in train operation, 04 number of Electronic Interlocking (EI) and 06 number of Relay based Panel Interlocking (PI) at various stations has been provided during year 2016-17. This cumulatively 383 number of stations are interlocked.

  • Block Proving by Axle Counter (BPAC) :

BPAC has been provided for proving complete arrival of train, by means of Axle Counter. BPAC has been commissioned in 07 block sections during the year. Cumulatively, 176 Block sections have been provided with BPAC.

  • Integrated Power Supply (IPS)

IPS System has been provided at stations to provide various AC and DC, reliable power supply to all vital signalling equipments, which earlier used to be through separate transformer/chargers. IPS system has been commissioned at 35 locations during the year 2016-17. Cumulatively, 670 IPS have been provided on Central Railway.

  • Light  Emitting  Diode (LED) Based Signals :

LED based signals provided in lieu of conventional signal bulb which eliminates cases of signal blanking and improving visibility of signals, thereby improving safety. During the year 2016-17, 213 LED main aspect have been provided, Cumulatively, 19779 numbers of LED main Aspect have been provided on Central Railway.

  • Interlocking of Level crossing (LC) Gates :

Level Crossing gates have been interlocked by providing signals thereby improving safety at level crossing gates for road and rail users. 02 LC gates have been interlocked during the year 2016-17. Cumulatively, 423 LC gates have been interlocked.
