Overview on freight Operation on CR
Central Railway plays an important role in Goods Traffic movement connecting North & South as well as East & West parts of country. Mostly the Fertilizers move from Westers regions, Food grains from Northern regions, Coal/Steel/Ores from Eastern/South-Eastern to Other parts of country, in addition to Port bound traffic and POL.
Traffic Pattern on CR
Outward Traffic
Coal is being loaded from Western Coalfields Limited for various power houses of Maharashtra and Gujrat like Chandrapur, Paras, Bhusawal, Nasik, Parli, Ukai Songarh, Gandhinagar etc. in addition coal for captive power plants, paper and textile industries is also dispatched.
Fertilizer-Two Plants of RCF are located on CR at Thal and Trombay, supplyingFertilizer mainly to Maharashtra, Karnataka State and some regions of NEIndia.
POL loading points on CR are Panevadi (Manmad), Loni, Trombay, IOTL (Jasai),serving mainly to Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, States. LPG is also dispatched from Uran.
Cementis dispatched by M/s. ACC Ltd ex Wadi and Ghugus plants, by M/s. BirlaSuper Siding ex Hotgi and by M/s. Orient Cement Siding ex Bhadli. Somequantity of Cement is also dispatched by M/s. Ultratech and AmbujaCement from Wadi G/shed, Tadali G/shed etc.
Iron&Steel traffic is very minimal on CR, M/s. Jindal Steel Works isloading from Pen & Vasind. M/s. Lloyed Steel is loading fromtheir siding at Wardha.
Foodgraindispatches depend on movement of Foodgrain by FCI for PublicDistribution system. Some quantity of Maize for export is also loadedfrom Bhusawal division.
Containertraffic is mainly handled at JN Port, ICDs of Container Corporation (Nagpur, Bhusawal, Chinchwad, Mulund, Turbhe, Dronagiri etc) and other Container Train Operation also.
Amongother goods, Sugar is loaded from Kolhapur – Baramati area of Punedivision, Onion is loaded from Nasik-Manmad area of Bhusawal and Solapur division, DOCis loaded from various stations of Bhusawal andNagpur divisions.
Inward Traffic
Inward Traffic mainly consists of Cement, Fertilizer, Foodgrain, POL and Steel. Export container traffic contributes major part of inward traffic.
Ports
Jawaharlal Nehru Port: It is a major port of the country where railways is handling container traffic both import and export. It has three terminals viz. JNPT, NSICT and GTI. Container Corporation is the main operator. APL, HIND, ETA, GRFL, DPW, CWC are the others container operators doing business at JN port.
Mumbai Port: Railways is handling import/export traffic of Food grains, Steel etc. at Mumbai Port. Due to infrastructure constraints in port railways the rail traffic quantum is less.
