Railway Board has recently authorized manufacture of 2 NG locos for DHR. Design under finalization by RDSO.

Provision of GPS based Remote Monitoring and Management of Locomotive and Train

Parel Workshop has provided GPS based Remote Monitoring and Management of Locomotive and Train (REMMLOT) system on Loco No.13040 WDG3A of Pune Diesel Shed during POH. This will enable monitoring the location, health, faults of the micro-processor locomotive in the field with centralized server based management system through CDMA and/or GSM network communication. Access to loco information is being given to Central Railway Divisional Diesel Power Controllers, Diesel Sheds and Parel Workshop by providing individual user ids.

Parel Workshop took this initiative with a view to turn out locomotives with latest technology from POH, and Parel Shop is  the first amongst Repair Workshops and loco Sheds of Indian Railways to install the REMLOT system on locomotives.

Manufacture  of 100th Loco.

Manufacture  of 100th Loco.
The 100th BG Diesel Locomotive manufactured by Parel workshop was flagged off by Member Mechanical , Rly Board on 16.10.2010 in Parel shop in the presence of CME,CRLY , CME /WRly, EDME (Tr) Rly Board and other Senior Rly Officials.
From a humble beginning, when Parel workshop manufactured the First WDS6 Loco in March, 2007, the Loco manufacturing activity in  shop has grown by leaps and bounds and  a total of 113 Locomotives have been manufactured till   Dec.2010.



Parel workshop has modified and rehabilitated WDS4 Loco No. 19414 which earlier had a vacuum cleaning system. This Locomotive has been provided with a exhauster having three stage filtration unit driven by Engine Crank shaft through an electro magnetic clutch , silencer unit, auto cleaning of dust collector and waste bin, mechanical movement of waster collecting bin and swivel arrangement of suction hose for ease handling and operation.  The Track cleaning machine was successfully tested in Parel and CSTM yard on 29.12.2010 and is being used by Mumbai Division in cleaning dust prone areas like Wadala and Kurla etc.

Conversion to WDS6 loco using MG Power Pack:

Parel Workshop has successfully converted one loco to WDS6 loco by manufacturing chassis and other sub-assemblies in-house, and utilising serviceable MG Power Pack from EC Rly. and serviceable Co-Co bogies from SC Rly. This loco (No.36504R) has the following salient features:-

? New chassis manufactured in-house at Parel.
? Compressor with tri-plate panel mounted brake valves.
? New E-Beam cables and harness
? AC motors ? cyclonic motor, crankcase motor, fuel pump motor.
? Ergonomic control desk with backlit LED gauges.

The new chassis has enabled the converted loco to have the same codal life as that of a newly-manufactured loco i.e. 36 yrs. This is the first such conversion undertaken by Parel Workshop and shall benefit Railways to meet shunting loco requirements while also utilizing serviceable power packs and bogies from locos being condemned.

Present Capacity for 4 WDG3A/WDS6 under-frames per month
144 under-frames manufactured till date
DLW has confirmed that from 2011-12 onwards, all WDS6 under-frames shall be manufactured at Parel

Manufacture of Automatic Coach Washing Plant

First Plant commissioned at NGP in Feb?07 and working satisfactorily
Plant at EMU Car Shed, Kurla shall be made ready in 2010-11.
