The role and duties of its officers and employees

Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer is zonal head and overall-in-charge of Mechanical Department of the zone. He is having technical and administrative control over the Mechanical Workshops, viz. loco Workshop-Parel, Carriage Workshop-Matunga Workshop, Kurduwadi Workshopand Sanpada Periodic Overhauling workshop. Besides, he has technical control over Car Sheds, Coaching Depots, Freight Depots, Accident Relief Trains, Train-Lighting, Air conditioning of Mail/ Express trains etc and all other activities related with Rolling Stock.

 

Head Of Departments of the various sections of this office deal with:

Chief Workshop Engineer is directly responsible for the functioning of Workshops. Responsibilities for budgetary controls in the Workshop also rest with Chief Workshop Engineer. He is assisted by Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer (Workshop)/Headquarter.

Chief Administrative Officer (Project) deals with all Project related matters of Rolling stock department of CR.

Chief Mechanical Engineer (Planning): Infrastructure facilities and availability of machine & plants in Workshop/production units and various Car sheds, diesel sheds, Carriage & Wagon depots and sick lines and train examination stations have to be reviewed periodically to facilitate effective manufacturing/maintenance activities.

Chief Mechanical Engineer (Planning) is coordinating officer to provide such facilities through works, Machine & Plants program and getting their sanction from railway Board for every financial year. He is assisted by Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer (Planning)/HQ.

Chief Electrical Engineer(RS) is the head of both the section and directly responsible for the functioning of Electrical Multiple Units (EMU) activities in Car sheds, Train Lighting and Air Conditioning activities of Mail Express. Responsibilities for budgetary controls in these activities also rest with CEE(RS). He is assisted by Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer (EMU)/HQ, Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer(Deposit & General )/HQ.

Chief Rolling Stock Engineer (Coaching) exercise direct control on the affairs of the repairs and maintenance of Coaching stock. Responsibilities for budgetary controls in the Coaching Depot also rest with CRSE (Coaching). He is assisted by Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer (Coaching)/HQ.

Also, all environments related works are carrying out by Environment & House keeping management Wing comes under CRSE (Cog). He is assisted by Deputy Chief of Environment & House Keeping management whose work is to make and coordinate with all the concerned in these matters.

Chief Rolling Stock Engineer (Freight) exercises direct control on the affairs of the repairs and maintenance of Freight stock. Responsibilities for budgetary controls in the Freight maintenance Depot also rest with CRSE (Freight). He is assisted by Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer (Freight)/HQ.

Chief Motive Power Engineer (Diesel) exercises direct control on the affairs of maintenance of Accident Relief Trains, Weighbridges, Speed of Rolling Stock, Diesel Locomotives. Responsibilities for Budgetary controls in these activities rest with CMPE(Diesel). He is assisted by Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer (Power & Fuel)/HQ, Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer (Diesel)/HQ.


All the officers are being assisted by the Senior Section Engineers, Junior Engineers, Chief Office Supervisors, Office Supervisors, Senior Clerks, Junior Clerks and General Assistants of this office.
