HIGHLIGHTS

*

3 nos of NDTC coaches converted to DTC coaches for conversion of 12 car to 9-car Siemens rakes for DC-AC conversion in HB & THB

*

20 Nos. of AC-DC Siemens rakes received from W.Rly in this year and made formation as per C.Rly and put in service.

*

All 9 car AC-DC Siemens rakes converted into 12 car rake formation.

*

2 Nos. DTC coach converted into NDTC coach for 12 car formation of Siemens rake.

*

Knurling type Centre Grab pole in door way provided in all Siemens EMU rakes for safety of passenger.

*

CCTV provided in ladies compartment coach for safety of womens in 37 EMU rakes.

*

Emergency Talk back system in ladies compartment for womens safety in 23 rakes.

*

As a part of preventive action to avoid recurrence of untoward incidents resulting into death/injury in railway premises awareness poster have been prepared by Commercial department and same pasted / Displayed at prominent locations inside the EMU coaches.

*

09 Nos. Bombardier rakes received from Western Railway & and 25 Nos. new Bombardier rakes received from ICF. These rakes commissioned and inducted in service after implementing all  Reliability Action Plan. 

*

15 Nos. EMU Siemens Cabs of Kurla Carshe based rakes has been provided with LED main head light & auxiliary head light in D’cab for better visibility as lux level has increased from 4950 to 8000 and Human death on account of low head light has reduced.

*

All panto pans with copper strips replaced with Carbon strips in all  rakes.

*

Advanced AWS fitment work has completed in 57 EMU cabs by removing old AWS.

*

Audio alert provided in D’Cab for alertness of train crew after passing yellow signal. After this modification SPAD cases will reduce.

*

One Additional 15 car EMU rake has inducted in service on 03.03.2019 on Main Line. Rectification and modification work of newly 15 Car rake has done by Carshed staff.

*

500 KW solar panel fitment work completed in Dec-2018 on the roof shed of Kurla, Kalva & Sanpada Carshed which has reduced Energy bill of carshed.

*

EMUs carshed has provided LED Lights & LED lamps in New yard / Inspection shed  which has improved lux level without increasing energy bill.

*

Siemens Rake IA Schedule activity was started at Pune Carshed from 20th November 2019.  02Nos. Siemens Rake’s IA Schedule was carried out during this month (on 20.11.19 & 26.11.19). A group Cash Award of Rs. 10,000/- each is sanctioned by PCME Sir for the staff of Kalva Carshed and Pune Carshed.

Fully air conditioned BHEL EMU rake with Unit no: 198705-198713-198714-198715-198716-198709-198710-198717-198718-198719-198720-198706 was inaugurated by Minister of State Railways and its first service was operated between PNVL to THANE (Trans-harbour) route on 30.01.2020.

*

UMID (Unique Medical Identity card, A Smart Health card system in Indian  Railways) camp was arranged in EMU Sheds.  All Shed staff along with family member’s data were updated during the camp. Till date 100 % Supervisors & staffs were registered under UMID successfully.

*

Commissioning  3 phase EMU Rakes fitted with Medha Electrics:  04 Nos. 3 phase EMU Rakes fitted with Medha Electrics received from SCR during the month of Oct-2019 and commissioning activities as per Central Railway Formation is  completed in all rakes inducted in passenger services during the month of Oct-2020

ULTRA-MODERN ‘UTTAM’ EMU RAKE

Mumbai suburban Central Railway local trains network has got an all new swanky and state-of-the-art ‘Uttam’ EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) fitted with Medha electrics. The ultra-modern ‘Uttam’ EMU rake has a three-phase IGBT-based propulsion system. The Uttam rake is well equipped with passenger-friendly facilities in order to provide a better experience for commuters. The new Uttamrake received by Central Railway from ICF and inducted in passenger services in Mumbai suburban in Central Railway on DT: 20-10-2020.

Some of the Salient Features of the new Uttam Medha EMU rake are

i)

CCTV camera provided in both cabs near headlight to have motorman front view and guard side back view of track area.

ii)

CCTV camera provided outside the cab gives platform view to guard.

iii)

CCTV cameras provided in all coaches.

iv)

Display provided in guard cab where live streaming of all CCTV cameras can be seen.

v)

Easy to operate Push button provided for Alarm Chain pulling.

vi)

Full LED lights in all coaches.

vii)

Aesthetically designed FRP seats in second class compartments.

viii)

More comfortable cushion seats with more heighted back rest in first class compartments.

ix)

Compartments,  isolation partitions, roof interior made of FRP in passenger area which gives pleasant look inside coach.

x)

Ergonomically designed End wall panels in passenger area.

xi)

Newly designed FRP luggage carrier.

The following preventive action taken by EMU carsheds to fight against CORONA VIRUS.

i)

Disinfectant and sanitation of all EMU rakes during night stabling in various stabling sidings and carsheds.

ii)

Public awareness by vinyal wrapping on the exterior of EMU rakes.

iii)

Passengers awareness by pasting posters inside the EMU coaches.

iv)

Audio visual announcement  through internal display for awareness of passengers inside the EMU coaches.

v)

Protection of staff started through temperature screening of artisans staff at time office and for supervisor in PPIO section.

vi)

Distribution of Mask and sanitizers to the staff.

*

Micro-processor based VVVF drive AC Traction motor bogie testing plant commissioned at KCS in Oct-2020.

*

Fully air conditioned BHEL EMU rake first service introduced in Main Line route on Dec-2020.

*

01 NO. 3phase MEMU Bombardier rake commissioned at Kalva carshed and inducted in passenger service.

 

 

 MAJOR MODIFICATION

MODIFICATIONS ON EMU RAKES:

*

Railway Board vide letter No. 2006/Elect(G)/181/3/AC-DC EMU dated 22.07.2010 approved retrofitment of 10 nos. existing DC EMUs coaches with AC equipment. One unit has been taken for proto-type. Control circuit and power circuit has been developed by Carshed, Kurla. Roof dishing and AC roof equipment fitment done. Transformer, Rectifier, HSCB fitment done and MG relocated. Unit tested in AC OHE and DC OHE and performance found satisfactory.

*

There had been cases of puncturing of lightening arrestor at DC-AC neutral section due to malfunctioning of APC (Automatic Phase control receiver). This was happening due to EMI caused by Traction return current. Kurla carshed has relocated APC magnet on all AC-DC rakes and failures have come down to zero.

*

To avoid detention of rake due to uncoupling of MR/BP stainless steel pipe, clamping of pipes is being carried out by Kurla carshed.

*

For easy operation of AWS and to avoid detention of rake due to pressure dropping, ISU of AWS system is being shifted and brought in front of Motorman.

*

Paralleling of Important Interlocks in AC-DC Siemens rake. The work has been completed in all rakes.

*

There had been 2 cases of breakage of three piece palm rod provided on AC-DC (Siemens) EMU. This is a safety hazard as broken palm rod may entangle with points/crossings. Single piece palm rods have been provided on all AC-DC (Siemens) EMU to avoid such incidences.

*

There had been large number of cases of side bearer crack on AC-DC (Siemens) EMU. Kurla carshed has modified all coaches as per ICF drawing. There are NIL cases after modification.

*

There had been cases of burning of BHEL type MG/Compressor contactor due to defective design of Arc quenching. All DC EMU rakes have been provided with TDK design MG/Compressor contactor which are superior in performance.

*

All Siemens Motor coaches Hatch doors modification work completed for the safety of passengers as Aluminum Hatch door replaced with carton Steel with proper welding.

*

Cattle guard modification work has completed in newly received 28 EMU rakes and withdrawal on account of CRO has reduced.

*

110 Nos. Motor Coaches body bolster welding crack detected and 110 Nos. Motor coaches welding crack attention work done. Kurla car shed based all motor coaches body bolster strengthening work has completed.

*

Provision of Conventional type ACP in MEMU rake carried and completed in all 48 MEMU coaches during the year 2019-20

*

Provision of Electric wiper in place of pneumatic wiper on Motorman and Guard side of Siemens EMU rakes.

*

Wheel flange lubrication system.

In the Trans harbour section, the Rail curvature is observed more as compared to Main Line which causes to wear and tear of wheel and track causing failure of wheel flange hence required frequent wheel turning or wheel changing. Thus to avoid this failure, Wheel flange lubrication system was introduce in D-Cabs of AC Retro & Siemens rake.

To avoid Signal passing at Danger (SPAD) cases, provision of Audio Alarm Unit system is installed in AC Retro and Siemens rakes. It alerts the M/man after passing single Yellow signal with continuous Audio and Visual Indication.

INNOVATION

1) HEALTH ASSISTANCE ROBOT:

The high infection rate among medical staff across the country has hampered efforts to tackle with COVID-19 pandemic. So to control the spread of infection among Doctors, Nurses and health workers with COVID-19, prompted us to develop a robot which enable Doctors & Nurse to interact with patients remotely from a safe distance and can measure health parameter like Temperature, Pulse, Oxygen percentage and it can deliver medicine & food to patients.

Considering the above requirement,  Kurla carshed designed &  developed a Robot with following Silent features.

i) Ergonomically designed to achieve interaction between doctor and COVID patient remotely.

ii) 2-way Video communication between doctor and patient.

iii) Can deliver medicine & food to patients.

iv) Can be operated with android mobile application.        

v) Range of operation 150 meter. 

vi) It can measure Health parameters like Temperature, Pulse, Oxygen percentage.

vii) Movement in all direction on leveled surface.

viii) Provision of automatic sanitizer (IR sensor)

ix) 6 hours of continuous operation with full charged battery.

x) Can carry 10kg weight.

xi) It can take Snapshot & Video recording facility.

2) FOOT OPERATED HAND SANITIZER MACHINE:

i) 14 Nos. Foot operated Hand Sanitizer machine developed by Kurla carshed in order to avoid direct contact with sanitizer knob.

ii) Maximum material used from the Carshed scrap material. Hence very low cost design.

iii) Operation is smooth and robust.

iv) Look is upto industry standard and attractive.

v) 05 Nos. Foot Operated hand Sanitizer handover to Kalyan Hospital.

 3) FOOT OPERATED DRINKING WATER ARRANGEMENT

In Kurla & Kalva Carshed in house Foot operated drinking water arrangement at RO plant is provided in order to avoid direct contact with tap.

 4) TECHNICAL GALLERY

Kurla carshed has developed a Technical Gallery in house by using resources available at carshed, which was inaugurated by Shri. Shalabh Goel, DRM/Mumbai on Dt: 22-01-2022,. In this Technical gallery all type of failure defects, technical instruction and layout of Kurla carshed are being displayed for better communication and knowledge of staff working in Kurla Carshed.
